To mark the end of the Fairtrade fortnight (23 Feb to 8 March 2009) a new world record was attempted and set.
The challenge - to record the number of Fairtrade bananas that could be eaten in a 24 hour period. Over 380,000 campaigners munched their way into the record books!
Bananas are the most popular fruit in the UK and are the most popular Fairtrade product. This record was aimed to support small farmers and workers in developing countries who rely on Fairtrade to earn a sustainable living and improve their communities. To highlight that buying Fairtrade is a really easy way to help alleviate poverty and ensure that the people behind the product get a fair price.
