Host a Green Baby Shower!

This week Anna and I were chatting with friends about Baby Showers and how popular they are at the moment. In the US, a baby shower is a well known tradition and a very popular way for the mum-to-be to get together with friends/family and celebrate the future birth of their child.

What about an eco-friendly baby shower?
A traditional baby shower that helps the environment and new baby at the same time! A few ideas below:

Invitations
Send on a recycled paper postcard (no envelope required) printed with non toxic dyes or go paperless and send an email invite using facebook or similar.

Green Gifts
Remember new baby gifts for baby and Mum!
Baby clothes, toys, toiletries and blankets that are made of 100% organic materials (www.molliemoo.co.uk can help!).

Remember! Natural and organic fibres are an ideal choice for babies delicate skin (a babies skin can absorb chemicals 5 times more easily than an adults skin, which can irritate their skin).

Used or recycled baby books & toys that are still in good condition (a lot of toys are never used so why buy new?).

Wrapping
Ask your guests to wrap all gifts in recycled/reused gift paper or newspaper, reusable baskets or storage containers that can be used in the nursery. I great idea is to wrap the gift in an reusable nappies or organic baby blanket tied with raffia (recycled paper).

Hope this helps! Any other ideas please let us know and we will add to this list..
