Have fun on an Easter Egg Hunt

Cathy and I have been looking for ideas of where to take our niece aged 4 over Easter. Everyone loves an Easter Egg Hunt (even the adults!) and have found the following venues in Sussex:

Michelham Priory - 12 -13 April 2009
Two day event for children with puzzles, trails and of course Easter Eggs!

Borde Hill Gardens - 1- 30 April 2009
Word Maze picture trail for 7-12 year olds
Picture Maze Easter Trail for 3-6 year olds
Each child will be awarded with an Easter Egg once they have completed the trail.

These are a few ideas, check out your local area for similar events.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star - Most Popular Lullaby

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is still the most popular lullaby to sing babies to sleep, according to Infacol (infant colic treatment specialists).

Anna and I have always sang traditional songs & lullabies to our little girls - they love hearing & dancing to them. The repetition has helped with their communication - new words are said all the time!

Anna takes her daughter to a local Rhyme club once a week, which they both really enjoy & would highly recommend it for children from 6 mths. Look for local groups in your area.

Visit a local Farm this spring

Now that we have longer days and warmer weather (it was lovely this weekend), why not take your children to a local farm?

Great to see animals at first hand and may well be luck enough to see a lamb being born. Lots of farms are open to the public all year around and are great to get children out and about.

For example - Spring Barn Farm Park, Lewes, allow you to bottle feed orphan lambs from 28th March and also have a Easter egg hunt & quiz on Easter weekend

We think this is a great day out for everyone so we are planning on taking our children in the next few weeks.

Fairtrade Fortnight - A Great Success!

To mark the end of the Fairtrade fortnight (23 Feb to 8 March 2009) a new world record was attempted and set.

The challenge - to record the number of Fairtrade bananas that could be eaten in a 24 hour period. Over 380,000 campaigners munched their way into the record books!

Bananas are the most popular fruit in the UK and are the most popular Fairtrade product. This record was aimed to support small farmers and workers in developing countries who rely on Fairtrade to earn a sustainable living and improve their communities. To highlight that buying Fairtrade is a really easy way to help alleviate poverty and ensure that the people behind the product get a fair price.

Why buy 100% organic cotton garments for babies?

All babygrows, sleepsuits, shoes, toys and blankets sold on the Molliemoo website are made of 100% certified organic cotton.

Organic cotton is an ideal choice for babies delicate skin:
  • As cotton is grown using NO chemical pesticides, insecticides or dyes (a babies skin can absorb chemicals 5 times more easily than an adults skin – which can irritate their skin)
  • Organic cotton is thicker, stronger and much softer than conventional cotton
Organic cotton is grown using sustainable growing practices so that the impact on the environment is reduced, these are:
  • Untreated seeds are used (no chemicals or genetic modification)
  • Natural fertilizers are used
  • Crops are rotated
  • Defoliation is left up to nature's freezing rather than a chemical application
  • Beneficial insects are introduced to cut the population of bad ones so a natural balance is maintained
  • The soil retains nutrients and the water and air stay clean for future generations
With these practices in place the farmers and manufacturers of organic cotton have better working conditions, a decent wage and as no chemicals are used they are not damaging their health. (over 20,000 farmers worldwide died last year from working on conventional cotton crops)

Finally, Organic Cotton is also a biodegradable and renewable resource.
